2008 Cape Kiwanda Surf Contest Poster - Pacific City, OR.

Dear Business Owner:

The 12th annual Cape Kiwanda Longboard Contest surfing competition is scheduled for August 7th and 8th, 2010.  This event, formerly run by the Ledbetter family, then Bryan bates of Seven Surfboards is being organized by Michael Rader who is a local surfer, sponsor and activist whom many of your are familiar with.  As usual the event will be held on the beach in Pacific City, Oregon.  The Longboard contest enjoyed many years of popularity and success due to a fantastic venue and community and volunteer support. The contest will stay true to its roots and remain a family oriented event. Additionally, we hope to represent our community and local businesses in Pacific City as much as possible. This year we plan to have 120 participants; we will have divisions based on age groups, kids, women and a tandem event. Contestants will participate in preliminary heats Saturday and semi-finals and finals Sunday, culminating in an awards ceremony Sunday afternoon and a raffle for all kinds of donated goods including surfboards and wetsuits. As a benefit for a potential skate park in Pacific City to serve our young people, a portion of the raffle proceeds will be donated to a fund for the park.

In addition to the contest, there will be music Saturday night either on the beach at the contest site or, in case of inclement weather at an indoor location in town. Also, a volunteer group will be performing a thorough beach cleanup at the close of the event Sunday night.

We are currently seeking sponsors for this event and would love to have your help in any capacity that you are able to give.

Why Sponsor?
The Cape Kiwanda Longboard Contest is a longstanding, well-regarded event which has traditionally drawn surfers from all over the northwest, including northern California and Canada.  Sponsorship gives your business exposure to not only those competing, but thousands of beachgoers and families who enjoy watching the event year after year.  There are many ways we represent our sponsors including, but not limited to: logo placement in promotional materials, posters and event clothing, internet exposure and links through our website, verbal mentions on the beach by our M.C.’s, banners and flags and product donations.

How to Sponsor:
We are seeking sponsors immediately for the 2010 contest.  Several levels of sponsorship are available. If you are interested, please review the information in this packet, fill out our one-page “Donation Agreement” and return it via email to:  capekiwandalongboard@yahoo.com If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email us.

Media Plan:
Information about the 2010 contest will be disseminated through multiple outlets.  First, we will have our website: www.capekiwandalongboardcontest.com which will display our contest

Art work, sponsors and contestants will have printable forms for entry and also this sponsorship packet.  As the event nears, we will post a heat sheet on the site as well for contestants to see what time they surf on Saturday.  The contest information will be submitted to several surfing related websites in the region, along with press releases.  Local television stations will be notified, as well as newspapers in the area and Portland/Salem.  Previously, many media outlets and news sources have covered the event.

What can I sponsor/donate?

Cash Donations-This form of sponsorship pays for items like trophies, tee-shirt and sweatshirt screenprinting, artist’s fees, port-o-potties, dumpsters for trash, competitor jerseys, permit fees, and other equipment rentals like the P.A., generator, scaffolding, etc.
Logistical Support-Any event such as this requires great volunteer support, and we would welcome any help with registration, security/parking, setup, takedown, beach cleanup, and of course assistance with running the contest itself during the event.

Equipment Support-Do you have any equipment you could donate for use for the event including: scaffolding, port-a-potties, generators, tables and chairs, public address system, large tents, etc.

Raffle Items-Can you provide higher-value single items such as surfboards, wetsuits, boardbags, artwork, food coupons, gift certificates, clothing, hotel/vacation rental accommodations, rental or other retail products or services.

Contestant Bag Items-In the contestant bags there is traditionally the heat sheet, a bar of wax and the contestant’s contest tee-shirt and some stickers.  Your business would have the option of including a sticker or  small item.

What are the Sponsorship levels and what does my business receive?

Platinum Sponsor: This is the headline sponsor and will have the largest prominence on the website, logos and banners at the event and on the clothing and poster art.

The donation is $2000 cash for this designation and will only be given to one sponsor.

Gold Sponsor: For a donation of $1000 cash a sponsor will get the second largest logos on contest materials.

Silver Sponsor: A donation of $500 will give this sponsor the third largest exposure.

Event Sponsor: For sponsors donating less than $500 in cash or product, your logo will be placed on the poster and clothing, and you will have the opportunity to bring a banner for display at the contest site.

All of the sponsors will be thanked repeatedly by our MC’s during the contest and will be linked on a sponsor’s page on the website.  Any sponsor wishing to compete in the event will receive a complimentary entry to the contest.
